Zee Names Trade Analyst Komal Nahta Creative Director to Run Film Buying and Zee Studios

Zee Entertainment Enterprises has appointed film trade analyst Komal Nahta as Creative Director for its movies business, putting him in charge of film acquisitions and Zee Studios, the company announced on 26 October 2026.

Nahta will oversee commercial and movie acquisition decisions across platforms, with a focus on Hindi and regional-language films, according to Storyboard18 and BestMediaInfo. He reports to CEO Punit Goenka, and Suraj Singh and the Zee Studios team will report to him.

Zee said the restructuring is meant to sharpen investment priorities and bring more discipline to capital spent on films. BestMediaInfo reported that Goenka framed the move as combining creative conviction with commercial discipline. The effective date was not disclosed.

Who is Komal Nahta

Nahta has more than four decades in the Hindi film business as a trade analyst, critic and publisher. He publishes the trade magazine Film Information and hosted Bollywood Business on Zee's ETC channel for 10 years. He also sits on the advisory board of Cinema Capital. He called the appointment "a homecoming of sorts for me", citing his years on ETC, BestMediaInfo reported.

Why Zee is doing this

Films feed every part of Zee's business: theatrical releases, satellite premieres on its TV channels and exclusives on ZEE5. Putting one person in charge of what Zee buys and makes gives the company a single filter for all three windows.

Zee did not say whether Nahta will continue to publish Film Information or comment on box office performance in his new role.

The move comes as rivals push films straight to their own platforms, such as JioHotstar's plan to sell Ramayana: Part One on pay-per-view after its theatrical run, and as Sony expands regional programming with its Tamil channel Vizha.
