Titan Company Ltd has announced a significant leadership transition, naming Ajoy Chawla as its next Managing Director (MD). Chawla, currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Titan’s highly successful Jewellery Division (Tanishq), will succeed C. K. Venkataraman, who is set to retire on December 31, 2025, upon reaching the Tata Group’s superannuation age. Chawla’s appointment as MD will be effective from January 1, 2026.
The Board of Directors of Titan Company approved this succession plan during their meeting on Thursday. C. K. Venkataraman, who has been with Titan since 1990 and assumed the role of Managing Director on October 1, 2019, will pass the baton to Chawla after a distinguished career with the company.
Ajoy Chawla brings a wealth of experience to the MD role. An alumnus of VJTI Mumbai and IIM Calcutta, he joined the Tata Administrative Services (TAS) in 1990 and began his journey with Titan in its finance department in 1991. Over the past three decades, Chawla has held various key positions within Titan, including significant roles in the Watches Division, as Chief Strategy Officer, and leading Business Incubation where he scaled the Fragrances business and established the Taneira brand. Since October 2019, as CEO of the Jewellery Division, he has spearheaded a period of remarkable growth, with sales and profits reportedly increasing by 2.5 times.
Outgoing Managing Director C. K. Venkataraman expressed his confidence in the succession, stating, “On behalf of the entire Titan team, I welcome Ajoy to lead Titan in its next phase of innovation and growth. With his strong customer obsession, people orientation, partnering impulse and focus on creating value, Ajoy is well qualified to shepherd Titan towards even greater glory and scale.”
The formal process of inducting Ajoy Chawla onto the Board of the Company and his appointment as Managing Director will be completed in due course, subject to shareholders’ approval. The decision regarding Chawla’s successor as the CEO of the Jewellery Division will be announced at a later stage.
This leadership transition comes at a time when Titan Company has reported a robust financial performance for FY25, with a 22% increase in total income, crossing the ₹50,000 crore revenue milestone. The company’s diverse portfolio includes jewellery (Tanishq), watches, eyewear, ethnic wear, and accessories.
