Prime Video Celebrates Women Trailblazers in Global Entertainment

Prime Video presented Trailblazers, an exclusive event dedicated to honoring the achievements of remarkable women in Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Held in London on October 1, the event attracted numerous high-profile women leaders from the entertainment industry, further reinforcing Amazon’s commitment to female empowerment and representation.

Hosted by Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon MGM Studios, and Kelly Day, VP of Prime Video International, the event took place at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s South Bank Centre. The showcase featured a distinguished lineup of guest speakers, including Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, producers like Amy Pascal, and directors Charlotte Brändström, Louise Hooper, and Lindsey Weber.

In front of an audience of industry professionals and female executives from Prime Video, discussions centered on key topics such as building global franchises, connecting with younger audiences, and the increasing prominence of action heroines. These conversations highlighted the efforts to elevate female storytelling and representation within the industry.

The event, anchored by broadcaster Clara Amfo, delved into themes featured in Prime Video’s popular titles like Citadel, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Deep Cover. Additionally, exclusive previews were unveiled for several international upcoming releases, including Citadel: Diana (Italy), The Devil’s Hour Season 2 (UK), Culpa Tuya (Spain), My Fault: London (British adaptation), La Virgen Roja (all-female cast), and The Office Australia.

Jennifer Salke emphasized Prime Video’s mission to be a global destination for women’s stories, stating, “We’ve had a mission to be a destination for women all around the world, and we’re starting to see progress with that.” Kelly Day further remarked, “We’ve expanded storytelling so much for women, igniting passion for our female viewers.”

Significant announcements included the expansion of the Reacher universe with the series order of The Untitled Neagley Project, starring Maria Sten, and the release of an exclusive clip from Citadel: Diana, executive produced by the Russo Brothers. Additional previews included first-look images from My Fault: London and the trailer for The Devil’s Hour Season 2, set to premiere globally on October 18.

Prime Video also spotlighted its £10 million Prime Video Pathway programme, which aims to boost access to TV and film production careers, with 64 percent of its participants being women, underscoring its commitment to fostering diversity.

Through Trailblazers, Prime Video continues to position itself as a leader in championing women in entertainment, ensuring their stories and contributions are seen and celebrated worldwide.
