Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, introduced its first working prototype of augmented-reality (AR) glasses, named Orion, at its annual Connect conference. CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased the prototype, describing it as a “glimpse into the future,” blending the physical world with holograms. The Orion glasses, crafted from magnesium alloy and powered by custom silicon developed by Meta, feature hand-tracking, voice commands, and a wrist-based neural interface for user interaction. Although still in the prototype phase, Zuckerberg mentioned plans to refine the design, making the glasses smaller, sleeker, and more affordable before a future consumer release. The presentation also highlighted Meta’s growing advancements in AI chatbots and the introduction of a new Quest mixed-reality headset.
