India Leads the Way in AI Innovation at Global AI Conclave 2024 in Bengaluru

Bengaluru recently hosted the second edition of the Global AI Conclave 2024, a pivotal event that highlighted India’s growing leadership in artificial intelligence (AI). Organized by Moneycontrol and CNBC-TV18, the conclave was centered around the theme “From Hype to Impact,” bringing together key stakeholders to discuss AI’s transformative power in governance, healthcare, and urban development.

The event underscored India’s strategic push to position itself as a global AI leader. Nalin Mehta, Managing Director of Moneycontrol, expressed his confidence in India’s future, stating, “India is at the forefront of an AI-powered transformation, ready to deliver real-world impact.” This aligns with the country’s ₹10,300 crore investment in the India AI mission, a commitment to accelerate innovation and adoption of AI technologies.

Santhosh Viswanathan, Vice President and Managing Director of Intel India, praised India’s unique innovation ecosystem, noting that “India’s frugal innovation and abundant data make it a leader in scalable AI solutions.” This ecosystem positions India to leverage its strengths in data and technological ingenuity to scale AI solutions effectively.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, former Union Minister, emphasized AI’s potential to improve public services, drawing parallels to the success of UPI in financial inclusion. He highlighted how AI could revolutionize public administration, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.

The conclave also featured a panel of healthcare experts, including Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal (Manipal Hospitals) and Dr. Geetha Manjunath (Niramai Health Analytix), who discussed AI’s role in revolutionizing diagnostics and improving patient outcomes. AI technologies are poised to significantly reduce diagnostic errors and improve healthcare delivery in India.

M.N. Anucheth, IPS, shared Bengaluru’s success in implementing adaptive traffic systems powered by AI, which have already reduced travel times by 17-22%. This solution demonstrates how AI can help address urban challenges such as traffic congestion.

Dr. M. B. Patil, Minister for Commerce and Industries in Karnataka, highlighted the state’s leadership in AI innovation, stating, “Karnataka, with 1.2 million skilled professionals, leads globally in machine learning, robotics, and quantum computing.” This positions Karnataka as a key player in India’s AI ecosystem, offering a skilled workforce to fuel AI advancements.

Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner for Industrial Development, announced that the upcoming Global Investors Meet 2025 would unveil a new industrial policy targeting ₹7 lakh crore in investments and the creation of 25 lakh jobs. This ambitious policy aims to further bolster India’s AI and technology-driven industries, attracting global investors and creating jobs for a rapidly growing tech workforce.
