Croma, the prominent consumer electronics and durables retailer under the Tata Group, has officially appointed Shibashish Roy as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD), effective April 1, 2025. This strategic move comes as part of a succession plan aimed at driving the company’s growth trajectory in an increasingly competitive market.
Shibashish Roy’s appointment follows a five-month transition period during which he worked closely with outgoing MD Avijit Mitra. Roy was initially named CEO in November 2024, and his promotion to MD signifies a consolidation of leadership roles within the organization. Naveen Tahilyani, Chairman of Infiniti Retail Ltd., expressed confidence in Roy’s capabilities, stating, “I am certain Shibashish’s digital-first approach and passion for customer engagement will drive Croma to great heights.”
With over 20 years of experience within Tata Group companies, Roy has been instrumental in enhancing Croma’s market presence and refining its customer service strategies across various sales channels. His extensive background equips him to lead the company into a new era focused on innovation and customer-centricity.
In his new role, Roy aims to expand Croma’s footprint in major markets while also increasing its presence in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. He emphasized the importance of leveraging digital technologies to deliver innovative omnichannel experiences for customers. “We are in an exciting phase as we expand in major markets and grow our presence in Tier 2/3 cities,” Roy stated.
Croma currently operates over 560 stores across more than 200 cities in India. The company plans to aggressively open new locations in suburban areas of metro cities as well as smaller towns, aligning with its strategy to capture a larger share of the consumer electronics market.
Roy’s elevation comes at a time when Croma is poised for significant growth. He expressed gratitude towards Avijit Mitra for his contributions over the years, acknowledging that Mitra laid the foundations that will guide Croma’s journey forward. Mitra has been a key figure in Croma’s development since its inception, having helped grow it into one of India’s leading electronics retailers.
As Croma embarks on this new chapter under Roy’s leadership, increasing market share and enhancing profitability have been identified as top priorities for the fiscal year 2026. The company is committed to not only maintaining its competitive edge but also fostering a culture of innovation that meets evolving consumer needs.
Roy’s appointment is seen as a pivotal moment for Croma as it navigates the complexities of the retail landscape while continuing to build on its legacy within the Tata Group.
Shibashish Roy’s appointment as CEO and MD of Croma marks a significant step forward for the company as it seeks to expand its market presence and enhance customer engagement through innovative strategies.
