‘Chhaava’ eyeing around Rs 25 crore opening

As the Valentine’s Day weekend approaches, the Indian box office is gearing up for the release of two major films: Vicky Kaushal’s “Chhaava” and Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: Brave New World.” Industry experts have provided insights into the anticipated opening performances of both films.

“Chhaava,” starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, is generating significant buzz ahead of its release. Advance booking reports indicate a strong audience interest, with the film selling over 2.32 lakh tickets across 8,090 shows in India, resulting in an advance booking collection of approximately ₹6.74 crore.

Industry projections suggest that “Chhaava” is poised to secure an opening day collection between ₹18 to ₹20 crore, marking the highest opening of Vicky Kaushal’s career to date.

The film’s strong advance sales have already surpassed those of previous Valentine’s Day releases, positioning it to set new records for the occasion.

Marvel’s latest installment, “Captain America: Brave New World,” featuring Anthony Mackie as the titular superhero, is also set to release this weekend. However, advance booking trends in India indicate a more subdued response compared to “Chhaava.” Reports show that the film has sold under 50,000 tickets in major national chains, with limited IMAX showtimes due to modest demand.

Despite the lukewarm advance bookings, industry experts predict that “Captain America: Brave New World” will achieve a double-digit opening in India, contingent upon positive word-of-mouth and critical reception post-release. Globally, the film is projected to earn between $185 million to $200 million in its opening weekend, with domestic (U.S.) collections estimated around $80 million to $85 million.

Key Highlights:

  • “Chhaava” is expected to open with collections between ₹18 to ₹20 crore, marking a career-high for Vicky Kaushal.
  • The film has seen robust advance bookings, selling over 2.32 lakh tickets across India.
  • “Captain America: Brave New World” anticipates a double-digit opening in India, with global projections between $185 million to $200 million for the opening weekend.
