Following the massive success of their collaborative projects Barbarian and Weapons, acclaimed filmmaker Zach Cregger and veteran producer Roy Lee are officially reteaming for a new feature film, Little One. This upcoming project is set to be a dark comedy, marking the feature-length directorial debut of writer-director Alex Kavutskiy.
The film, which is currently in active development, centers on a sudden, unsettling change in a child’s behavior that threatens to tear a picture-perfect family apart. Based on a script penned by Kavutskiy, the project is already generating significant industry buzz, bolstered by the track record of the production team behind it. Hammerstone Studios is on board to finance the project, marking a continued creative partnership with Cregger following their collaboration on Barbarian.
In addition to Cregger and Lee, the production team for Little One includes Chris McEwen (Love, Simon), alongside Amanda Phillips and Melina Torres of Soto Productions, known for their work on Winner and The Assistant. The project is currently in the midst of casting, with principal photography officially slated to begin in Los Angeles this coming June.
The announcement of Little One adds to an already packed production schedule for both Cregger and Lee. The duo is currently balancing several high-profile initiatives, including the development of a Resident Evil reboot and a feature film adaptation of the graphic novel Torso for Netflix. As Cregger continues to cement his reputation as a master of character-driven, suspenseful, and tonally complex storytelling, Little One represents another intriguing pivot into the dark comedy space. Industry insiders expect further casting announcements to follow in the coming weeks as the project moves closer to its June start date.
