Bollywood actor Shraddha Kapoor has attributed the massive success of her latest film Stree 2 to the collaborative effort of its “fabulous team.” Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror-comedy sequel to the 2019 hit Stree has become the highest-grossing Hindi film ever at the domestic box office, amassing over Rs 600 crore, according to a PTI report from New Delhi.
Speaking at the relaunch event of the iconic magazine Screen, Kapoor expressed her pride in the film, calling it “pure cinematic joy.” She praised her co-stars Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, saying, “We have brilliant actors in the film. We have some really entertaining dialogues. So, it has been a fabulous team effort, and I’m really proud to be a part of this film.”
Kapoor reflected on the journey that began six years ago with Stree, set in the small town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, where an evil spirit abducts men during the festival season. The story was based on the urban legend of “Nale Ba,” which gained traction in Karnataka in the 1990s. She recalled, “When I first heard the script, I was laughing throughout. It was unlike anything I had come across before.”
Kapoor’s character, a mysterious woman whose presence leaves audiences intrigued, also received immense love. Speaking about the challenge of crafting a sequel, she remarked, “It’s important not to make a sequel just for the sake of it. You need real substance to bring people to the theatre. The team did an exceptional job of staying true to what a sequel should be.”
Known for films like Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, Chhichhore, and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, Kapoor also shared insights into her film selection process. “I believe my best is yet to come. I want to be a part of stories that are exciting and have a subliminal message for the audience. That’s where my focus is right now.”
