India’s most-watched news channel, Aaj Tak, is set to host the prestigious Aaj Tak Sahitya Jagriti Samman at the Sahitya Aaj Tak festival, where the revered poet-lyricist Gulzar will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The event will take place at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi on November 23, 2024, and will be graced by President Droupadi Murmu, making it a historic occasion for literature and culture in India.
Gulzar, born Sampooran Singh Kalra in 1934 in Dina, Pakistan, has made remarkable contributions to Indian literature and cinema. His poignant poems, impactful lyrics, and evocative films have earned him global recognition. He is celebrated for works like Chauras Raat, Raavi Paar, and Khamoshi, and for his direction in films such as Mere Apne and Aandhi. Gulzar’s accolades include the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, an Oscar, and a Grammy, among others.
This year’s Sahitya Jagriti Samman will also recognize other outstanding writers in various categories, such as Best Literary Work, Most Popular Author, and the Emerging Talent Award. Winners will receive a cash prize and a memento, while the Lifetime Achievement Award will include ₹11 lakh, a commemorative memento, and a certificate of honor.
