In a significant move to strengthen its international presence, Nippon TV, Japan’s premier multiplatform entertainment company, has appointed Satoru Hiramatsu as the Managing Director of its Global Content Business. Hiramatsu, who previously worked in Nippon TV’s linear and streaming programming division, will report directly to Yuzo Kuwahara, the Operating Officer and President of the Content Business. He takes over from Mikiko Nishiyama, who transitions to the role of Executive Advisor for Global Strategy Headquarters .
In his new capacity, Hiramatsu will lead the global content sales and promotion team responsible for the success of Nippon TV’s renowned formats, including Dragons’ Den/Shark Tank, Old Enough!, and Mother. He aims to expand Nippon TV’s global footprint further, highlighting the potential of the company’s diverse portfolio of creative formats that are yet to be fully embraced worldwide .
“My goal is to promote these new IP in a timely and compelling manner. The global content market is witnessing a rising wave of interest in Japanese-origin content, not only in anime but also in live-action formats,” Hiramatsu stated. Hiramatsu has an extensive background in journalism and content production, having begun his career in Nippon TV’s news department. He covered significant events, including the September 11 attacks and the East Japan earthquake and tsunami. His notable achievement includes producing News Zero, Japan’s most popular nightly news program, which has maintained its success over the years .
Following his tenure in news, Hiramatsu moved to the advertising sales and content marketing divisions before overseeing Nippon TV’s broadcast schedule in the programming division. His diverse experience within the company positions him well to lead its global content strategy effectively .
