Netflix will bid farewell to most of its interactive titles, with only four set to remain after December 1. This decision, as reported by The Verge, marks a significant reduction in Netflix’s interactive catalog, which initially drew attention for its unique viewer-driven format. ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ is among the select few staying on the platform, while others like ‘Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale’ (2017), ‘Carmen Sandiego’, and ‘Boss Baby’ interactive episodes will be removed.
Netflix was a pioneer in interactive storytelling, using innovative technology to allow viewers to make choices that influenced the plot. However, Chrissy Kelleher, a Netflix spokesperson, commented that the interactive storytelling technology had “served its purpose,” and Netflix is now refocusing resources on new innovations.
The move aligns with Netflix’s shifting priorities, including a stronger focus on gaming and generative AI, a division recently led by Mike Verdu, former head of Netflix‘s gaming efforts, who has since transitioned to spearheading generative AI initiatives for the streaming giant.
