Lionsgate has officially rescheduled the release date for its highly anticipated biopic, ‘Michael’, centered on the life of pop legend Michael Jackson. Originally set to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, the release has now been moved to October 3, 2025. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson—Michael’s nephew—the film promises to deliver an intimate and complex portrayal of Jackson’s life and legacy.
Jaafar Jackson has gained considerable attention for his resemblance to his iconic uncle, adding authenticity to the role, according to a PTI report. John Logan, the screenwriter, delves into both Jackson’s celebrated public persona and his lesser-known private life, offering a well-rounded view of the “King of Pop.” The cast also includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Fuqua shared his enthusiasm for bringing Michael’s story to life, saying, “Michael was a big part of my life growing up, a big influence on my career, but he was a human being, and we’re exploring that.” This delay allows Fuqua and his team additional time to perfect the project, with the goal of creating a comprehensive cinematic experience.
The film will feature 30 of Jackson’s most iconic songs. Producer Graham King highlighted the extended runtime, emphasizing its role in capturing Jackson’s artistic journey, his influence, and his enduring legacy.
