Some of the world's largest investors are competing for shares in Jio Platforms' anchor book, worth about ₹8,000 crore, ahead of the company's initial public offering, Mint reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Anchor bidding takes place on Monday, 19 October 2026, two days before the issue opens to the public.
Who wants in
Sovereign and state-backed funds seeking allocations include the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Qatar Investment Authority, Singapore's GIC, Norway's Norges Bank Investment Management and Mubadala Investment Co. Global asset managers BlackRock and FMR, the parent of Fidelity, are also seeking shares, as are the asset management arms of Goldman Sachs and Franklin Templeton.
At home, about 15 asset managers, including HDFC, SBI, ICICI Prudential, Nippon Life India and Motilal Oswal mutual funds, have submitted indications of interest. Under SEBI rules, part of the anchor portion is reserved for domestic mutual funds.
How the anchor book works
Anchor investors are large institutions that commit to buying shares a day or more before an IPO opens, at a price within the band, and agree to hold them for a lock-in period after listing. A strong anchor book is often read as a signal of institutional confidence before retail and other investors bid. Final anchor allocations are disclosed to the stock exchanges once the book closes.
The issue
Jio Platforms' IPO opens on Wednesday, 21 October, and closes on Friday, 23 October, with listing expected on 28 October. At the upper end of the price band, ₹1,119 a share, the all-fresh issue would raise about ₹30,213 crore, making it the largest IPO in Indian market history. Most of the money will go towards prepaying debt of its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm. The company's filing also sets out its plans to challenge Google and Meta in advertising.
