Delhi’s Saket Court has ordered a five-day judicial custody for Deepak Gupta, a relative of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the ₹81 crore financial fraud at BharatPe. Gupta, who previously served as the head of administration and procurement at the company, was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police on charges of misappropriating ₹72 crore through payments made to bogus vendors. He was presented before the court following five days of police custody, according to ANI reports.
The EOW had initially requested 10 days of custody to further probe Gupta’s alleged connections with Amit Bansal, another accused in the case, and to recover a crucial computer linked to the fraud. The investigation centers around the flow of funds and their misappropriation, with authorities focusing on Gupta’s role in the financial discrepancies within BharatPe.
This arrest adds to the ongoing legal saga involving Ashneer Grover, who was ousted from BharatPe in 2022 amid allegations of fund misuse. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court recently granted Grover and his wife, Madhuri Jain, permission to travel abroad, overturning a lookout notice issued by the EOW. The couple, despite opposition from the Special Public Prosecutor, received approval to visit the UK and Qatar between September and October 2024.
