Ananya Pandey’s ‘Call me Bae’ gets renewed for a second season

Ananya Pandey’s Call Me Bae, recently released on Amazon Prime Video, has now been renewed for another mind-blowing season, streamer Prime Video announced on Wednesday, September 18. Fans quickly reacted to this huge announcement, with one mentioning, “Kaafi bae-karaar for this one.”

The announcement video featured Panday in her bossy character, along with Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Gurfateh Pirzada, and other cast members from season 1. The post read, “Our day couldn’t get any bae-tter. Bella is coming to swoon us over again with a new season. #CallMeBaeOnPrime, S2 in development.”

The series cleverly blends humor with serious themes like self-identity and women’s empowerment. Downsized from heiress to hustler, Bae discovers her most valuable assets aren’t her diamonds but her street-smart style. Broke, but refusing to be broken, she navigates the newsrooms of Mumbai and her better self while breaking news.

Season 1 primarily focuses on Bella, who belongs to a rich family but is at risk of losing everything within a year. To avoid this fate, Bella’s mom encourages her to fall in love with Agastya, a businessman. They end up marrying him so they do not suffer financial embarrassment in front of their relatives.

However, Agastya seems emotionally distant, and Bella starts an affair with her gym trainer, Prince (Varun Sood). After getting caught, she leaves Agastya and loses the wealth that came with the marriage. The story then leads into Bella’s journey of self-growth as she learns to be an independent woman who can take care of herself.

This Hindi-language comedy-drama series is penned by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair, and directed by Colin D’Cunha. Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, the show stars Ananya Panday in the lead role, with a supporting cast including Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. The series is co-produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra.

Co-producer Karan Johar shared a statement: “We’re stoked to announce that we’re working on developing the second season of Call Me Bae. The first season has been a game-changer for us, and we’re grateful for all the love and appreciation it has garnered from audiences across the globe. It’s been an absolute privilege to be a part of this journey, seeing the show go from script to screen and finally revel in immense love from viewers.”

He further added: “The love Ananya, Collin, Ishita, and the rest of the cast have received has been a true joy to witness. We’re genuinely excited to delve deeper into the characters and their stories, and we’re positive that the second season will be more Bae-misaal than before.”
