Golden Globes 2026: ‘Hamnet’ and ‘One Battle After Another’ Claim Top Honors

The 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night saw ‘Hamnet’ and ‘One Battle After Another’ emerge as the night’s biggest winners, setting the stage for the 2026 awards season. The ceremony, held at the Beverly Hilton and hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, celebrated excellence in film and television as journalists from around the globe handed out the first major accolades of the year.

‘Hamnet’, a moving historical drama directed by Chloé Zhao about William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway’s grief following the death of their son, secured the prestigious title of Best Motion Picture – Drama. Its lead, Jessie Buckley, also triumphed, winning Best Female Actor in a Movie Drama for her portrayal of Agnes.

Meanwhile, Paul Thomas Anderson’s dark comedy ‘One Battle After Another’ dominated the musical and comedy categories. The film was named Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and earned Anderson awards for both Best Director and Best Screenplay. Teyana Taylor added to the film’s tally by winning Best Supporting Female Actor.

In one of the evening’s most competitive categories, Timothée Chalamet took home his first-ever Golden Globe. Chalamet won Best Male Actor in a Movie Musical or Comedy for his role as a professional table tennis player in the sports-comedy ‘Marty Supreme’.

Accepting the award, Chalamet expressed his gratitude to his fellow nominees, which included industry titans like Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney. “I’d be lying if I didn’t say those moments made this moment that much sweeter,” he remarked, referencing his previous four nominations without a win.

The international stage shone bright as the Brazilian film ‘The Secret Agent’ was named Best Non-English Language Film. Its star, Wagner Moura, pulled off a surprise victory to win Best Male Actor in a Movie Drama. In supporting roles, veteran actor Stellan Skarsgård won for the Norwegian drama ‘Sentimental Value’, jokingly noting he felt “too old” for the honor at 74.

The television categories also crowned new champions, with the emergency room drama ‘The Pitt’ winning Best TV Drama and the industry satire ‘The Studio’ taking home Best TV Comedy. In music, the viral hit “Golden” from Netflix’s ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ was awarded Best Original Song.

Warner Bros Discovery led the media field with nine total wins, an achievement mocked by host Nikki Glaser as she joked about auctioning the studio for $5 amidst ongoing industry bidding wars.

Beyond the glitz, many celebrities used their platform to quietly highlight social issues by wearing ‘Be Good’ pins. These were worn to honor Renee Good, a woman who was tragically killed by an immigration officer last week in Minneapolis. As the first major bellwether of the year, the Globes have firmly placed several titles as frontrunners for the Academy Awards in March.
