Zupee has stopped its real-money gaming (RMG) operations in India, effective immediately, in compliance with the new Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which was recently passed by the Rajya Sabha. The company, however, will continue to offer its free-to-play titles.
The move was announced by a company spokesperson shortly after the Rajya Sabha’s approval of the new bill, which bans all online money games, regardless of whether they are based on skill or chance.
- Discontinuation of Paid Games: Zupee has formally discontinued all games on its platform that involve a monetary stake.
- Free-to-Play Continues: The company’s statement confirmed that its popular free titles, such as Ludo Supreme, Ludo Turbo, Snakes & Ladders, and Trump Card Mania, will remain available to its more than 150 million users.
- Compliance with New Law: Zupee’s decision is a direct response to the new law, which proposes strict penalties, including imprisonment and hefty fines, for platforms that continue to offer RMG services.
Zupee’s decision is part of a broader industry-wide response to the new legislation. Other major players in the RMG sector, including Dream11, Mobile Premier League (MPL), and Gameskraft, have also either suspended or announced the shutdown of their real-money gaming operations. The industry is facing a significant disruption, with many companies now planning to pivot toward free-to-play, E-Sports, or international markets to stay afloat.
While the new law is a major blow to the RMG sector, which has attracted billions in investment, the government’s stance is that the bill is necessary to protect citizens from financial harm and addiction. The industry, however, is preparing to challenge the law in court, arguing that it is unconstitutional.
