‘War 2’ Crosses ₹300 Crore Globally

In a remarkable feat for the YRF Spy Universe, Ayan Mukerji’s ‘War 2’ has crossed the ₹300 crore mark in its worldwide gross box office collection within just five days of its release. However, the domestic performance of the film has shown significant signs of struggle, particularly on its first Monday. The movie, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has garnered ₹183.25 crore in India in its first five days, but a massive 75% drop on its first Monday has raised concerns among trade analysts.

The film’s journey at the box office has been a rollercoaster. It debuted with a strong ₹52.50 crore on its release day, August 14, followed by a major jump to ₹57.35 crore on Independence Day. However, the weekend collections saw a dip, with the film earning ₹33.25 crore on Saturday and ₹32.15 crore on Sunday. The real shock came on Monday, when the collections plummeted to a mere ₹8.50 crore across all languages, marking the lowest daily collection for the film so far.

The contrast between the film’s global and domestic performance is striking. While it is set to enter the ₹300 crore club worldwide, its domestic run has been lackluster, especially when compared to its predecessor. The original ‘War’ (2019) had a much stronger and more consistent run at the domestic box office, eventually reaching a lifetime gross of ₹318.01 crore. A major contributing factor to the film’s domestic struggle is its box office clash with Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’, which has been dominating the southern markets.

Despite the setback, ‘War 2’ is still a major commercial success on a global scale. The film has earned ₹240 crore (gross) in India and ₹60.5 crore from the international market, according to the film’s team. The film’s performance will now depend on its ability to stabilize collections over the weekdays and recover from the massive Monday drop.
