The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-backed initiative, has announced the appointment of its Chief Operating Officer (COO), Vibhor Jain, as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with immediate effect. This decision follows the recent departure of ONDC’s first MD and CEO, T. Koshy.
Vibhor Jain, who was also part of the eight-member executive committee that had been managing affairs after Koshy’s exit, will now assume all executive powers. The appointment of an acting CEO signifies a move towards a single point of leadership as ONDC continues its search for a new full-time Managing Director and CEO.
ONDC’s board expressed confidence in Vibhor Jain’s ability to lead the organization during this transition, acknowledging his pivotal role in shaping ONDC’s operational framework.
Reacting to his appointment, Jain stated his commitment to working closely with the board, stakeholders, and the broader ecosystem to ensure the continued momentum of ONDC’s mission to democratize digital commerce in India.
Since its inception in December 2021, ONDC has facilitated over 200 million transactions.
