The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to pay tribute to four cinematic legends who have significantly influenced Indian cinema: Raj Kapoor, Tapan Sinha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR), and Mohammed Rafi. The festival will honour these icons through a series of special tributes, screenings, and interactive sessions, offering attendees an immersive experience of their contributions to the cinematic world.

According to an official government statement, IFFI will present digitally restored versions of select classics by these film luminaries, in partnership with NFDC-NFAI, enhancing the visual and audio quality of these timeless works. This tribute aims to allow audiences to experience these masterpieces in all their original grandeur.

Among the highlights, Raj Kapoor’s iconic film Awaara will be showcased in its digitally restored form. Known for its poignant portrayal of societal struggles, Awaara is set to revive the empathy and humour Kapoor infused into his portrayal of the common man’s journey, highlighting his unparalleled influence on Indian cinema.

Another classic, Tapan Sinha’s Harmonium, will also grace the festival, inviting audiences to revisit Sinha’s compelling storytelling. The film is a testament to Sinha’s artistic legacy, known for its thought-provoking themes and emotional depth, and is celebrated as one of his most iconic works.

Further enriching IFFI 2024’s lineup is the restored version of Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s Devadasu. To further celebrate these cinematic greats, the opening ceremony of IFFI 2024 will include a special performance and an audio-visual presentation honouring their lives and achievements. In a unique gesture, IFFI will also unveil a MY STAMP dedicated to these four icons, symbolizing the profound impact they’ve had on Indian culture and cinema.
