Sony BBC Earth Launches 5th Edition of ‘Earth In Focus’ Photography Contest

In an initiative aimed at encouraging creativity and a deeper connection with the environment, Sony BBC Earth has announced the launch of the fifth edition of its popular photography competition, ‘Earth In Focus’. The contest, with the theme ‘Shades of Life,’ invites photography enthusiasts from across India to submit their unique visual interpretations of the nation’s diverse landscapes, cultures, and wildlife.

The month-long competition, which opened for submissions on September 22, 2025, is divided into three subcategories to accommodate a wide range of photographic styles: ‘Glow of Earth,’ focusing on landscapes and natural light; ‘Colours of Culture,’ celebrating the richness of human traditions and festivals; and ‘Vibrant Wild,’ dedicated to the untamed beauty of the animal and plant world.

The jury will be led by renowned wildlife photographer and educator Sudhir Shivaram, who also serves as a Brand Ambassador for Sony Alpha India. Having successfully transitioned from a corporate career to a full-time passion for photography, Shivaram is celebrated globally for his conservation-focused storytelling.

The top three winners across the categories will receive a GoPro Hero 13, a prize that has generated significant buzz among photography communities. In addition to the camera, their winning photographs will be featured on the Sony BBC Earth channel, providing an unprecedented platform for their work. The top 15 selected photographers will also gain an exclusive opportunity to attend a masterclass with Sudhir Shivaram, where they will receive personal mentorship on refining their craft and storytelling.

Speaking about the contest, Rohan Jain, Business Operations Head at Sony AATH and Cluster Head for Marketing, emphasized the channel’s commitment to inspiring passion and exploration. “We are thrilled to offer ‘Earth In Focus’ as a platform for people to showcase their talent and contribute to our shared passion for the world,” he said. Judge Sudhir Shivaram added that the theme ‘Shades of Life’ is about more than just creating an image; it is about telling stories and celebrating the “wonders of life in all its forms.”
