Prime Video provided an exclusive first look at its upcoming Hindi original series, ‘Daldal’, at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The psychological crime thriller, which will stream soon globally, introduces audiences to DCP Rita Ferreira, a sharp Mumbai police officer whose pursuit of a calculating killer plunges her into the city’s darkest moral corners.
The series is based on Vish Dhamija’s bestselling novel, Bhendi Bazaar, and marks another significant collaboration between Prime Video and Abundantia Entertainment.
Female-Led Narrative and Creative Team
- Creative Team: ‘Daldal’ is created for the screen by Suresh Triveni, produced by Vikram Malhotra and Triveni, and directed by Amrit Raj Gupta.
- Star Cast: The series features Bhumi Satish Pednekkar, Aditya Rawal, and Samara Tijori in lead roles.
- Global Release: The platform confirmed that the series will stream soon on Prime Video in India and across more than 240 countries and territories.
The teaser preview at IFFI was followed by a panel discussion, “Beyond the Stereotype: Redefining Women and Power in Modern Storytelling,” focusing on the series’ layered themes.
Nikhil Madhok, Director & Head of Originals at Prime Video India, spoke about the platform’s commitment to building nuanced, female-led narratives. He highlighted that streaming has provided the space for women to be written with agency and complexity, a philosophy ‘Daldal’ continues by placing a morally challenging female protagonist at its core.
Bhumi Satish Pednekkar, who plays DCP Rita Ferreira, described the role as one of the most demanding of her career. She revealed the character required her to rely less on dialogue and more on subtle physical expressions to convey Rita’s deep emotional turmoil and inner conflict. Pednekkar stressed that the intense preparation was immensely rewarding due to the team’s commitment to creating a strong, yet unsimplified, female character.
Producer Vikram Malhotra emphasized Abundantia Entertainment’s track record (including ‘Shakuntala Devi’, ‘Sherni’, and ‘Jalsa’) of portraying women with authenticity and dimensionality, stating their goal is to tell human stories rather than categorizing them by gender.
Series creator Suresh Triveni was drawn to the project’s refusal to settle for predictable crime-thriller patterns, instead focusing on examining the origins of darkness and the internal battles that shape actions. Director Amrit Raj Gupta added that the team ensured performances remained understated, allowing characters’ vulnerabilities and flaws to emerge organically.
With its atmospheric narrative and powerful characterization, ‘Daldal’ is one of Prime Video’s most anticipated upcoming originals.
