Prime Video has announced the exclusive global streaming premiere of Maddock Films’ supernatural horror-comedy, ‘Thamma’. The highly anticipated film is available to stream starting today, December 16, for audiences in India and across more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.
The digital debut follows a successful theatrical run for the film, marking the latest addition to Prime Video’s growing slate of high-profile Indian films reaching a vast international audience.
‘Thamma’ is a key installment in the expanding Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU), a successful franchise known for blending folklore with contemporary storytelling. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner along with Amar Kaushik, and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The screenplay was crafted by Niren Bhatt, Arun Fulara, and Suresh Mathew.
The movie features a star-studded lead cast:
- Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, humanity’s last hope.
- Rashmika Mandanna as Tadaka, a mystical being.
- Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Yakshasan, the formidable ruler of darkness.
Supporting roles are played by Paresh Rawal and Faisal Malik, with exciting special appearances from Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Banerjee, Nora Fatehi, and Malaika Arora.
Set in a mythical world where supernatural forces collide with human emotions, the film’s narrative blends horror, humour, and romance—a genre-defying combination that strongly resonated with moviegoers during its cinema release.
Crucially for fans of the franchise, ‘Thamma’ deepens the interconnected narrative of the MHCU. The film features cameo appearances and narrative links to earlier successful franchises within the universe, including ‘Stree’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Munjya’, and ‘Bhediya’. These connections not only enrich the shared universe but also strategically hint at future crossovers and expansions.
Manish Menghani, Director and Head of Content Licensing at Prime Video India, expressed delight in bringing ‘Thamma’ to a global audience, highlighting the platform’s long-standing collaboration with Maddock Films. He praised the film for continuing the studio’s legacy of immersive world-building and genre-blending.
Producer Dinesh Vijan described ‘Thamma’ as an essential step in expanding their folklore-rooted universe while maintaining Maddock Films’ signature genre-mixing approach. He noted that the global streaming premiere will significantly strengthen the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe across various geographies.
The lead actors also shared their enthusiasm, with Ayushmann Khurrana citing the script’s freshness and emotional core, and Rashmika Mandanna describing her excitement for her first role in the supernatural comedy space. Nawazuddin Siddiqui eagerly anticipates the worldwide audience response to his unique character, Yakshasan.
