Meta’s artificial intelligence assistant, Meta AI, has achieved a major milestone with over 400 million monthly active users, as disclosed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The AI platform, which is rapidly expanding in popularity, also attracts around 185 million weekly users, underscoring its growing footprint in the competitive AI chatbot market.
The announcement reflects Meta AI’s swift rise, particularly as it contends with established competitors such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Microsoft’s Copilot. Zuckerberg, in a post on Threads, highlighted the platform’s rapid growth, stating, “…Growing quickly, and we haven’t even rolled out in the UK (United Kingdom), Brazil, or EU (European Union) yet,” according to The Economic Times.
Zuckerberg has set a bold objective for Meta AI to become the most widely used AI assistant by the end of the year. The current user figures indicate that Meta AI is well-positioned to meet this target, especially as it continues its global rollout. For comparison, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the leading player in the AI assistant market, has reported a weekly user base of over 200 million.
OpenAI also recently revealed that its AI chatbot now has more than 200 million weekly active users, doubling its user count in less than a year. According to Taya Christianson, an OpenAI spokesperson, 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies are using OpenAI’s products, with API usage doubling since the release of ChatGPT-4o mini in July.
Meta AI’s growth has been significantly boosted by its integration into Meta’s suite of apps—WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger—which collectively have around three billion daily users. This broad integration differentiates Meta AI’s expansion from that of ChatGPT, which is currently available only as a standalone app.
With these impressive growth figures, Meta AI is asserting itself as a strong contender in the AI chatbot market, highlighting the increasing demand for AI-driven interactions across various digital platforms.
