European Cinema Takes Center Stage at the 29th Edition of European Union Film Festival (EUFF)

The much-anticipated European Union Film Festival (EUFF) is back for its 29th edition, showcasing an eclectic lineup of 26 award-winning films from across Europe. This year, the festival will span three cities: New Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad, and promises a captivating cinematic experience. The festival opens in New Delhi from November 7 to 16, with screenings at iconic venues such as the India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes, and Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan.

EUFF 2024 celebrates the art of cinema, bringing films from countries like Austria, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, and Ireland to the forefront. Notable highlights include internationally acclaimed films such as La Chimera, Baan, Jim’s Story, Afire, What a Feeling, An Irish Goodbye, Animal, and Restore Point, offering Indian audiences their first chance to see some of these cinematic masterpieces.

The festival is organized by the Delegation of the European Union to India, in collaboration with the Embassies of EU Member States and regional partners. It seeks to foster Indo-European cultural dialogue and spotlight European society, culture, and the human experience.

Hervé Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India, shared his excitement for the festival, stating: “Europe and India are bound by a shared passion for cinema and storytelling. This year’s #EUFF2024 offers the Indian public a selection of award-winning films from renowned international festivals, providing a unique window into Europe through the cinematic lens.”

Key Highlights of EUFF 2024:

  1. Award-Winning Films: A selection of 26 films in 31 languages, many of which have garnered accolades at prestigious film festivals across the globe.
  2. India Premieres: The festival will mark the India premiere of 10 European films, including What A Feeling, Baan, Black Velvet, and more.
  3. Cinematic Talent: The festival will also welcome notable European artists, including Yile Yara Vianello, lead actress from La Chimera (Italy), Tomas Vengris, director of Five & A Half Love Stories (Lithuania), and Pedja Miletic, producer of Blood on the Crown (Malta).

Veronica Flora and Valerio Caruso, curators for EUFF 2024, emphasized the festival’s theme, reflecting on the human soul’s resilience in turbulent times and the pursuit of solidarity and peace through cinema.

With free screenings (first-come, first-served) and English subtitles for all films, the 29th edition of the European Union Film Festival is an unmissable opportunity for cinephiles to dive into the richness of European culture, storytelling, and artistic expression.
