In a groundbreaking effort to address the challenges faced by community animals in Delhi, the Zigly Foundation has launched ‘Zigler – Youth for Paws‘, a student-driven movement dedicated to animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. This initiative empowers students to actively participate in on-ground activities, fostering a compassionate approach towards community animals.
‘Zigler – Youth for Paws’ is designed to educate and train students, enabling them to engage directly in animal protection efforts. The program has reached over 6,000 students across 15 colleges in Delhi-NCR through awareness sessions, webinars, and online programs. This extensive outreach has cultivated a network of more than 300 dedicated ‘Ziglers’ who are actively involved in various initiatives to improve the lives of community animals.
The ‘Ziglers’ have undertaken numerous activities, including:
Feeding Drives: Conducting daily feeding sessions twice a day, benefiting over 100 community dogs in their localities.
Rescue Operations: Assisting in the rescue, fostering, and adoption of animals in need, providing them with a chance for a better life.
Distribution of Essentials: Collaborating with shelters like the Karma Foundation and the Posh Foundation to distribute over 100 jackets to shelter dogs, ensuring their warmth and comfort.
Health Initiatives: Organizing deworming drives in areas such as North Campus, treating over 40 community dogs to improve their health.
Safety Measures: Implementing reflective collar drives in South Campus, fitting 70 community dogs with collars to enhance their visibility at night and reduce accident risks.
Beyond direct animal welfare activities, the Zigly Foundation emphasizes the importance of responsible pet parenting. ‘Ziglers’ play a crucial role in educating the community about proper pet care and promoting harmonious coexistence with street animals. Through campaigns focusing on feeding, vaccination, and health check-ups, the foundation strives to create a more informed and compassionate society.
Yamini Jaipuria, Managing Trustee of the Zigly Foundation, articulated the organization’s mission, “We firmly believe that if today’s students are educated, aware, and empathetic towards community animals, we can change the future for these voiceless beings. Through the Zigler program, we’re empowering the youth to not only be the change-makers but also to inspire others to join the cause.”
The ‘Zigler – Youth for Paws’ initiative is redefining youth engagement in animal welfare, demonstrating the profound impact of collective action. As students across Delhi-NCR unite under this movement, the future for community animals looks increasingly hopeful, marked by compassion, care, and concerted efforts.
