In a strategic appointment, Chetan Jhawar, previously with Netflix India, has been named the Lead for Hindi Original Movies at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. This move underscores Amazon’s commitment to strengthening its Hindi film division in the competitive Indian streaming market.
Jhawar announced his new role via LinkedIn, expressing enthusiasm for the opportunity. He stated, “After an unforgettable 5+ years at Netflix India, I’m starting a new chapter with Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios as Lead, Hindi Original Movies. Excited for what’s next and grateful for everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.”
During his tenure at Netflix India, which began in April 2019, Jhawar played a crucial role in developing the platform’s Hindi Original Films portfolio. Initially joining as a Creative for International Original Film, he was promoted to Manager, International Original Film in February 2020. His efforts were instrumental in establishing Netflix’s identity in India by expanding its offerings of high-quality content tailored for the Indian audience.
Prior to Netflix, Jhawar worked as Senior Producer (Content) at ALTBalaji for three years, where he significantly contributed to building the platform’s original series portfolio. His career began in 2008 as a Creative Intern at Leo Burnett. Jhawar has also gained experience with Star TV Network from 2012 to 2016 and collaborated with well-known production houses like Red Chillies Entertainment and Beyond Dreams Productions.
With over a decade of experience in content creation and production, Jhawar’s new role at Prime Video is poised to enhance Amazon’s position in the regional content landscape. His expertise will help Amazon MGM Studios to more effectively compete in India’s vibrant streaming market, particularly as demand for original Hindi content continues to rise.
