On Earth Day 2025, global real estate giant Brookfield Properties has launched a compelling six-week campaign, ‘Powered by Purpose,’ aimed at fostering sustainable behavior and raising crucial awareness about climate impact.
Taking a unique “digital-first” route, the company unveiled what it cleverly terms “the least impactful video ever”—a deliberately low-resolution film. This unconventional approach serves a powerful purpose: to highlight the often-overlooked environmental cost associated with high-definition streaming and excessive online content consumption. Aligning perfectly with this year’s Earth Day global theme, “Our Planet. Our Power,” the campaign invites individuals to commit to a digital sustainability pledge and contemplate the hidden environmental footprint of their online habits.
Reema Kundnani, Executive Vice President and Head of Marketing and Key Account Management, Brookfield Properties in India, emphasized the deeper significance of the campaign, stating, “The video is symbolic and represents a much deeper commitment. The real impact lies in the work we do every day—across our campuses, within our communities, and through our long-term focus on renewable energy and climate-positive development. Powered by Purpose reflects how we build, operate, and contribute to a more sustainable future.”
Beyond the digital realm, Brookfield Properties is taking tangible action on the ground. The company has pledged to plant over 5,000 native trees across the bustling metropolitan areas of Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR. This initiative builds upon the success of their ‘Forest of Hope’ program, which has already seen the planting of over 3,000 trees. These existing trees are estimated to sequester a significant 1,500 tonnes of CO₂ annually and generate over 2,700 tonnes of vital oxygen.
This Earth Day campaign reinforces Brookfield Properties’ broader and ongoing environmental commitments in India:
- A significant 40% of their Delhi-NCR energy needs have already transitioned to renewable power through their Bikaner Solar Power Project.
- They have created over 1.5 million square feet of green cover across their various campuses in India.
- Their initiatives have resulted in the elimination of over 20,000 metric tons of CO₂ annually, which is equivalent to taking approximately 4,300 cars off the road.
Looking ahead, Brookfield Properties remains firmly on track to power its entire India portfolio with 100% clean energy by 2027. Furthermore, the company is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its extensive 55 million sq. ft. portfolio by 2040 or even earlier, demonstrating a strong and proactive stance towards environmental sustainability.
