In a major leap for India’s digital sovereignty, Bhashini, the government’s AI-powered multilingual translation platform, has successfully migrated its entire workload to Yotta Data Services’ domestic sovereign AI cloud. This strategic move from a global hyperscaler to local infrastructure has resulted in a staggering 40% increase in performance and a 30% reduction in operational costs.
The migration, announced on February 9, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for the National Language Translation Mission (NLTM). By utilizing Yotta’s Shakti Cloud, Bhashini ensures that critical linguistic data and AI models remain within Indian jurisdiction. According to Sunil Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of Yotta Data Services, the transition was far more than a simple “lift and shift” operation; it involved a complete architectural re-engineering to optimize the platform for indigenous hardware.
To achieve these results, Yotta implemented high-performance GPU clusters powered by NVIDIA H100 processors. These were specifically tuned to handle Bhashini’s complex speech-to-text and machine translation pipelines.
- Speed: The 40% performance boost ensures near-instantaneous translation across 22 scheduled Indian languages.
- Efficiency: The 30% cost dip allows the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) to reinvest resources into expanding its “voice-first” solutions for rural India.
Bhashini serves as a core pillar of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), powering everything from multilingual grievance redressal systems (CPGRAMS) to real-time speech translation at major national events. The migration to a sovereign cloud strengthens the security and reliability of these services, ensuring that the vision of an Aatma Nirbhar Bharat is supported by robust, locally-managed technology.
With this migration complete, Bhashini is now better equipped to handle the massive data processing requirements of its growing ecosystem, which currently supports over 350 AI models and millions of users across the country.
Key Highlights:
- Key Results: Bhashini achieved a 40% performance boost and a 30% cost reduction post-migration.
