In a grand gesture celebrating a historic sporting achievement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a staggering ₹131 crore cash reward for the Indian men’s cricket team. This announcement comes following India’s spectacular victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where the “Men in Blue” defeated New Zealand in a one-sided final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The reward marks a ₹6 crore increase from the ₹125 crore prize given to the team after their 2024 triumph.
Under the dynamic leadership of Suryakumar Yadav and the tactical guidance of Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, India scripted history by becoming the first team ever to successfully defend their T20 World Cup title. By clinching the 2026 trophy, India has also become the most successful nation in the tournament’s history with three titles (2007, 2024, and 2026). The final was a masterclass in dominance, as India posted a record-breaking 255/5—the highest score in a T20 World Cup final—before bundling out the Kiwis for 159 to win by 96 runs.
The ₹131 crore bonus will be distributed among the 15-member squad, the coaching staff, support personnel, and the national selectors. Several key performances defined India’s unbeaten run in the tournament:
- Sanju Samson: Adjudged Player of the Series, Samson’s explosive 89 in the final set the foundation for India’s massive total.
- Jasprit Bumrah: Named Player of the Match in the final for his lethal spell of 4/15, dismantling the New Zealand top order.
- Abhishek Sharma & Ishan Kishan: Both young openers provided a fiery start with quick-fire half-centuries, keeping the momentum high throughout the powerplay.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas and Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that the reward is a reflection of the team’s immense hard work and the pride they have brought to 1.4 billion Indians. This follows a trend of increasing financial incentives for world-beating performances; the board previously awarded ₹58 crore for the 2025 Champions Trophy win and ₹51 crore to the Indian women’s team for their ODI World Cup victory.
“To defend the title and achieve this feat on home soil makes it even more special. The team played outstanding cricket throughout the tournament,” stated BCCI President Mithun Manhas.
With the victory parade expected to take place in Mumbai later this week, the “Men in Blue” have once again proved their undisputed status as the global giants of the shortest format of the game.
