Avatar Fire and Ash Hits $1 Billion Globally

Walt Disney Studios has announced that Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. This achievement solidifies James Cameron’s third entry in the sci-fi saga as a dominant force in modern cinema, making it the third consecutive film in the franchise to reach this massive financial milestone.

Released in late 2024, the film has sustained incredible momentum into the new year, driven by intense demand for premium formats like IMAX 3D and a strong international presence.

As of January 4, 2026, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has amassed a staggering global gross of $1.083 billion. The earnings split showcases the franchise’s significant appeal in overseas markets:

  • Domestic (North America): $306 million
  • International Territories: $777.1 million

Notably, China remains the film’s top international market with $138 million, followed by France ($81 million), Germany ($64 million), and South Korea ($44 million).

The success of “Fire and Ash” marks the third time a Disney-distributed film has crossed the billion-dollar threshold in the 2025 release cycle. It joins the ranks of the animated powerhouse “Zootopia 2” and the live-action “Lilo & Stitch”.

With this latest release, the total Avatar franchise gross now exceeds $6.35 billion, making it one of the most successful cinematic properties in history. James Cameron remains the only director to have three separate films (and now a full trilogy) achieve this level of commercial success.

“Fire and Ash” returns audiences to the world of Pandora, following Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) as they lead the Na’vi against new threats. The film features an expansive cast including Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang, with a story crafted by Cameron alongside Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
