Anushka Sen has made history by becoming the first Indian artist to perform live at Times Square in New York, marking her debut as a singer in the West. The event was part of AY Young’s innovative “Battery Tour”, an eco-conscious initiative aiming to power 1,000 concerts using clean energy.
Anushka collaborated with AY Young, a UN Young Leader for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and performed their song “Graduation” from Project 17, a music album centred on the United Nations’ 17 SDGs. Composed by Grammy Award winner Ken Lewis, the song emphasizes the importance of education, showcasing Anushka’s advocacy for global educational goals, IANS reported.
Reflecting on the performance, Anushka expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent India at such an iconic location. “Being the first Indian to perform at Times Square, in front of a global audience, was exhilarating,” she shared, also highlighting the environmental cause tied to the event. She described the experience as magical, noting the diverse audience’s warmth and support.
The event was part of Climate Week NYC, organized by the Climate Group, further aligning Anushka’s musical journey with global efforts for environmental sustainability.
Anushka, who is also gaining attention in South Korea, is currently working on her first international film project, “Asia,” an action thriller featuring actors from across the continent.
