Tata Play Fiber, a leading Indian internet service provider, has announced a strategic collaboration with IBM to develop a next-generation, AI-ready enterprise data lakehouse. This initiative, powered by the IBM watsonx platform, is designed to unify the company’s fragmented data ecosystem, enabling advanced analytics and a shift toward data-driven decision-making at scale.
In an increasingly competitive broadband market, Tata Play Fiber sought to modernize its infrastructure to overcome challenges posed by disconnected systems. Previously, critical information—including customer master records, marketing metrics, finance data, call center interactions, and service operations—was distributed across 25 disparate sources. This fragmentation often led to data inconsistencies, a lack of standardization, and significant delays in real-time reporting.
By leveraging the IBM watsonx platform, the new data lakehouse integrates both structured and semi-structured data into a single, trusted, and scalable environment. This unified architecture allows Tata Play Fiber to optimize and scale its artificial intelligence workloads, providing a comprehensive view of business operations.
The transformation is expected to empower teams across the organization, from call center agents to field service engineers, with contextual insights. This real-time visibility is designed to enhance operational responsiveness and significantly elevate the overall customer experience. Beyond immediate service improvements, the platform will help identify new cross-selling and upselling opportunities while strengthening customer retention strategies.
Anand Sahai, CEO of Tata Play Fiber, emphasized that building a robust information system is central to the company’s digital transformation. He noted that the secure, scalable environment provided by IBM will allow the company to deliver differentiated experiences and unlock new revenue streams.
The evolving architecture is also set to improve regional demand forecasting. Moving forward, Tata Play Fiber plans to incorporate additional network and operational datasets into the lakehouse. This expansion will drive deeper analytics across all business facets, ensuring the company remains agile and future-ready in the rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape.
