In a major leap toward seamless digital governance, the Government of Tamil Nadu officially launched ‘Namma Arasu’ on Friday. This unified WhatsApp-based chatbot is designed to bring 51 essential citizen services directly to residents’ smartphones, eliminating the need to visit government offices or navigate multiple web portals.
Unveiled at the UmagineTN 2026 summit, the initiative is a collaboration between the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) and Meta. The platform aims to make public service delivery more inclusive, simplified, and people-centric.

- Financial Payments: Utility bills, property taxes, and temple donations.

Meta-Powered Digital Governance
Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head of Meta (India), highlighted that this partnership brings government services into the everyday lives of citizens. By using a widely popular platform like WhatsApp, the state is significantly reducing the complexity of interacting with the bureaucracy.
TNeGA officials have indicated that this is only the first phase of the project. Namma Arasu is expected to scale up in the coming months, onboarding even more departments and services to ensure last-mile delivery of digital public goods.
