Global pop icon Taylor Swift has delighted fans by announcing the addition of eight new bonus acoustic tracks to her recently released 12th studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’. This surprise comes just days after the album’s blockbuster debut.
The original ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ album, which features 12 tracks, dropped on October 3. The album immediately shattered records, achieving the second-largest US first-day album sales in modern history behind Adele’s ‘25’, selling a staggering 2.7 million physical and digital copies in its opening frame, as reported by Billboard in a PTI report from Los Angeles yesterday. Furthermore, the album set a new benchmark for physical media, achieving the most vinyl album copies sold in a single week with 1.2 million units, surpassing her own 2024 record set by ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ (859,000 copies).
The 14-time Grammy winner revealed the news on her Instagram handle on Saturday (Oct. 5), sharing a post that showcased the collection of her new limited CD art variants.
Swift explained that the bonus tracks were inspired by the acoustic surprise moments from her record-breaking tour. “File this under ‘save your best for the finale’… I think my favourite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises,” she wrote. “So I went back into the studio with Max [Martin] and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production!”
The eight new acoustic songs will be spread across four limited CD releases, which will be made available exclusively on her website for a brief 24-hour period. The detailed list of the acoustic tracks includes:
- Life Is A Song Acoustic Version (featuring ‘Opalite’ and ‘Ruin the Friendship (My Advice Version)’)
- Dressing Room Rehearsal Version (featuring ‘WihLit (Settled Down Acoustic Version)’ and ‘The Life of a Showgirl (Dressing Room Rehearsal Acoustic Version)’)
- Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version (featuring ‘The Fate of Ophelia (Alone In My Tower Acoustic Version)’ and ‘Eldest Daughter (Now You’re Home Acoustic Version)’)
- So Glamorous Cabaret Version (featuring ‘Elizabeth Taylor (So Glamorous Cabaret Version)’ and Elizabeth Taylor (Original Songwriting Voice Memo))
This move signals Taylor Swift’s continued strategy of giving fans multiple limited-edition versions of her album, a method that has significantly contributed to her historic sales figures and ensured her dominance in the music industry.
