MakeMyTrip Urges Caution, Advises Against Non-Essential Travel to Turkey and Azerbaijan

Leading online travel platform MakeMyTrip (MMT) has urged the public to refrain from undertaking non-essential travel to Turkey and Azerbaijan. This advisory comes amidst growing public sentiment and geopolitical tensions, leading to a significant drop in bookings and a surge in cancellations for these destinations.

According to a MakeMyTrip spokesperson, the company has witnessed a substantial 60% decrease in bookings for Turkey and Azerbaijan over the past week, accompanied by a sharp 250% increase in cancellations. This trend follows reports and widespread sentiment regarding the two nations’ perceived stance on recent geopolitical events involving India.

“Indian travellers have expressed strong sentiments over the past one week, with bookings for Azerbaijan and Turkey decreasing by 60 per cent, while cancellations have surged by 250 per cent during the same period,” a MakeMyTrip spokesperson stated. “In solidarity with our nation and out of deep respect for our armed forces, we strongly support this sentiment and advise all against all non-essential travel to Azerbaijan and Turkey. We have already discontinued all promotions and offers on our platform to discourage tourism to these two destinations.”

Several other travel platforms, including EaseMyTrip and Ixigo, have also issued advisories or suspended bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan. This collective response from the travel industry reflects the strong feelings expressed by many Indian travellers.
