30th EU Film Festival Returns to India: 28 Films from Europe and Ukraine on Screen

The highly anticipated 30th European Union Film Festival (EUFF) is set to commence in India, celebrating a milestone of three decades of Indo-European cinematic exchange. The festival will kick off in New Delhi on October 31 before travelling to Bengaluru and Hyderabad, offering Indian audiences a “Window to Europe” through a diverse selection of contemporary cinema.

The 2025 edition, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to India in collaboration with EU Member States’ Embassies and regional partners, will present 28 acclaimed films from all EU Member States and Ukraine. This special line-up celebrates creativity, diversity, and the timeless power of storytelling to connect people across borders.

The Delhi leg of the EUFF 2025 will run from October 31 to November 9 and will be hosted across four prominent cultural venues: the India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, and Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre. Entry to all screenings is on a first-come, first-served basis, with all films featuring English subtitles.

The curated selection by festival curator Artur Zaborski is described as “bold and deeply moving,” exploring universal themes of resilience, hope, identity, and the celebration of life. Key films in this year’s line-up include:

  • The Missile (Finland): A darkly comic portrait of small-town life.
  • Dying (Germany): A critically acclaimed title from the country.
  • Matters of the Heart (Denmark): An intimate portrayal of family trauma and reconciliation.
  • Happy (Austria): The moving story of an undocumented Indian father striving to secure a future for his daughter.
  • Julie Keeps Quiet (Belgium): An exploration of silence and systemic abuse within the world of sports.
  • The Waves (Czech Republic): A gripping historical thriller set during the Prague Spring of 1968.

Hervé Delphin, the Ambassador of the European Union to India, emphasised the festival’s significance: “This year marks a truly special milestone for us at the EUFF, as we celebrate 30 years of cultural exchange, creativity, and dialogue between Europe and India through cinema.” He highlighted that the festival is an invitation for audiences to engage with cinema that is thought-provoking, inspiring, and deeply human.

Europe and India, as two of the world’s largest film industries, share rich cinematic traditions and a long history of collaboration. The EUFF 2025 solidifies this partnership, providing a platform for cultural dialogue and showcasing award-winning films that cross borders and generations, weaving together stories of identity, love, hope, and defiance.
