On October 9, 2024, Inshorts Group unveiled its latest poll results, shedding light on consumer behavior and shopping preferences during the festive season in India. The survey, which collected over 240,000 responses, reveals key insights into how various factors influence purchasing decisions, shopping triggers, budgeting habits, and preferred platforms for festive shopping.

Festive Shopping Triggers and Preferences

The poll indicates that 48% of respondents feel more inclined to purchase festive-themed products during the festive season. Additionally, a significant 67% stated they are more likely to buy extra items when offered special seasonal discounts. Notably, 82% of respondents explore multiple platforms before finalizing their festive purchases, showcasing a strategic approach to shopping.

Last-Minute vs. Planned Shopping

In terms of timing, responses reveal a balanced shopping approach:

  • 51% purchase festive clothes well in advance, while 49% prefer last-minute shopping.
  • When it comes to festive gifts, 58% prefer buying last-minute. Among those shopping for gifts last-minute, 39% choose quick-commerce or instant delivery services.
  • For festive decorations, 54% also opt for last-minute purchases.
  • Interestingly, 55% purchase festive gift hampers last-minute, with 35% resorting to quick-commerce for urgent needs.

Budgeting & Spending Pattern

The poll highlights notable budgeting trends:

  • 59% of respondents do not set a specific budget for festival shopping.
  • 60% prefer investing in high-value items, such as electronics and appliances, during festive sales.
  • Additionally, 49% reported spending more on home and decor items compared to other times of the year.

Online vs. Offline Shopping Preferences

When it comes to shopping methods, the preferences vary significantly across categories:

  • 66% prefer shopping for festive clothes offline, while 44% favor online platforms for gift purchases.
  • For high-value purchases like electronics, preferences are almost evenly split: 52% opt for online shopping, and 48% choose offline.
  • A significant 75% prefer offline shopping for festive home décor items, while 82% favor offline for festive gift hampers.
  • For last-minute festive items, 32% are more inclined to shop online. Furthermore, 65% of respondents would be more likely to purchase festive gifts online if custom gift packaging options were available.
  • Lastly, 75% believe the ability to schedule delivery for a specific time during the festive season would enhance their online shopping experience.
